Go Buy This: Animal Collective

In lieu of a full review, let me just say that this album is nearly flawless. The only thing I can complain about, really, is the album artwork, which feels like a poster that would be hanging on a college freshman stoner kid's wall. I was talking to a friend about this album the other day. He told me that he'd avoided all of the album leaks, and waited until the official release to listen to Merriweather Post Pavilion. He said that when he carried the LP into his room, tore off the shrink wrap, and set the needle in the groove, he felt like he was part of a moment in musical history. This may seem absurd to some of you, but that's how I felt the first time I listened straight through this record. It truly does feel like a paradigm shift. The music contained on this album is almost unbelievably creative and forward-thinking, even for the ever imaginative Animal Collective. If you haven't heard this album yet, do yourself a favor and buy it. Though it's been the only 2009 release I've heard thus far, I predict that nothing will surpass it.

BUY IT
